Short Stay

It is always possible to spend a few days at the monastery to begin or to deepen Zen Buddhist practice. 

The schedule at the monastery is efficient and well organized, which allows the practitioner to abandon his or herself completely to the rhythm of the temple. 

A Typical Day

6:00 am Wake up
6:30 am Zazen - seated meditation
7:30 am Ceremony
8:00 - 8:30 am Genmai, traditional breakfast and sutra chanting
9:30 - 12:00

Samu, voluntary work done with the community at the temple,

carried out in the spirit of generosity - cooking, gardening, cleaning, wood working, office work,

maintenance, etc...

12:30 - 1:00 pm Vegetarian meal cooked with organic ingredients,

eaten in oryoki bowls - traditional japanese bowls
1:00 - 2:45 pm Break - personal studies
2:45 - 5:00 pm Samu
5:00 pm Break - personal studies
6:45 - 8:00 pm

Zazen - seated meditation, with teaching by Master Wang-Genh.

Evening ceremony and symbolic offering of the day

for the wellness of all sentient beings.

8:15 pm Evening meal
9:30 pm Bed time

Silence is observed from 9:30 pm and 8:30 am the next day.

Documentary The Zen Temple of Weiterswiller

This reportage - very well conceived - has the peculiarity of having been directed by Timéo, who was 11 years old at the time of the shooting.
